Vanessa headshotIt’s no secret that data analytics is a powerful tool for driving business decisions. That’s why Vanessa chose an internship with the AT&T Business and Commercialization Advanced Analytics team. During her internship, she has learned how data analytics can effectively drive success for both the business and herself. She’s also built a strong network, gained valuable skills, and experienced opportunities only #LifeAtATT can offer.

As her internship wraps up, Vanessa reflects on her achievements, lessons learned, and hopes for the future.

Making critical contributions

Vanessa focused on delivering data insights to support our Mid-Market and Global Enterprise teams. Her work included analyzing customer trends and revenue for Platinum Sales, as well as using employee counts to forecast revenue and inform new sales strategies. Providing data that drives critical decisions for a large organization can be demanding, and Vanessa successfully navigated these challenges by developing key skills such as time management and effective communication.

“Being organized has been key to achieving my goals,” Vanessa said. Each morning she would review her calendar, making note of any meetings or events, then creates a task list, dedicating focused time to each during quieter periods of the day. “This structure helps me meet my work commitments while still engaging in activities and experiencing AT&T’s company culture.”

Creating meaningful connections

Vanessa found the culture at AT&T to be the most rewarding parts of her internship. She appreciated the opportunity to connect with fellow interns and exchange knowledge, even sharing some of her favorite local spots as a Dallas resident. Engaging in company events and volunteer activities has also made a meaningful impact.

Vanessa speaks on a panelVanessa, along with several other interns, were invited by a Senior VP to take part in the Commercialization Organization’s second quarter town hall. During the event, Vanessa got to introduce herself to the wider team and talk about the projects she was working on. The cherry on top was a trivia game in which she won an AT&T tote bag.

“It was incredible to see a Senior VP so invested in interns that they created a platform for us to express ourselves. It demonstrated the company’s commitment to creating a supportive and collaborative culture.”

The positive energy continued after the town hall, as many of her coworkers introduced themselves and readily offered their support whenever she needed it. These connections boosted her confidence in reaching out and encouraged her to deepen her understanding of the business.

Lessons learned

The most valuable lesson Vanessa gained from her internship and the town hall experience was the importance of building strong connections. “When you hit a roadblock on a project, a connection you’ve made might just be the help you need to figure it out,” she explained.

Recognizing this, she encourages all young professionals to “be curious, be social, and stay in touch with what’s going on across the company.” anticipating in events like employee socials and volunteer opportunities not only inspires but also helps expand one’s network.

Vanessa looks forward to applying her skills and relationships as she transitions into a full-time role. She is particularly interested in contributing to the evolving field of data analytics and exploring how emerging technologies like AI will shape her work.

“Growing within the company is not just about advancing my career — it’s about making a meaningful impact,” she said. “I am inspired by the many ways AT&T encourages personal and professional development. I’m eager to be part of the team driving growth for both myself and others.”
