Every field assignment brings a different challenge. Technicians manage complex systems, follow critical safety procedures and solve problems, often while working independently. Atlas brings the tools and information they need into one place, helping them work more safely, efficiently and confidently.
Bringing simplicity to a complex job
Before Atlas, completing a job could mean moving among numerous applications, web pages and even physical documents. Each system handled a different part of the work, making an already demanding job more complicated.
Opening an installation ticket happened in one app. Troubleshooting might require searching a separate site or calling another technician for help. Every extra step took time away from installations, repairs and customers. Atlas changed that.

“From the beginning, our vision has been centered on helping technicians spend less time navigating systems and more time focusing on the work that matters most: serving customers and maintaining the network,” says engineer Mansi.
Built around that vision, Atlas has grown into a central hub for technicians. It brings together assignments, job details, workflows, maps, testing tools, technical practices and supporting resources while reducing reliance on redundant legacy applications.
“Atlas gives technicians the information they need at the right time,” Mansi says. “That means fewer clicks, simpler workflows and more time focused on completing the job accurately.”
Designed around real-world needs
Building one platform for more than 34,000 technicians across the country is no small task. Different technician groups have distinct responsibilities, systems and workflows, so feedback from the field remains central to the product team’s work.
“A workflow that works well for a central office technician may not be the right solution for a Mobility technician,” Mansi says. “Standardizing the experience while meeting each group’s needs requires extensive collaboration and research.”
The team also balances Atlas’s long-term direction with immediate business priorities. As the platform expands, it must maintain performance, respond to technician feedback and add capabilities that replace gaps left by legacy systems.
Product, engineering, UX and operations teams work closely with technicians through research, testing and ongoing feedback. Measurable indicators of business value and usability help the team prioritize improvements that matter most in the field.
Recurring pain points and usability concerns inform the development roadmap, ensuring Atlas continues to evolve around the people who use it every day.
Putting technicians first
Premises Technician Kyler has seen that evolution firsthand. When he started, Atlas was a website with a limited set of features. Today, it is an application he relies on throughout the workday.

“Having almost instant access to a vast amount of information has made completing jobs much smoother,” he says. “Instead of searching through a website or asking other technicians, you can ask Atlas, get a summary and follow a link to the full resource when you need more detail.”
From his device, he can dispatch and close jobs, run required tests, view nearby technicians on a map, find technical guidance, and access the information connected to an assignment, all without moving between multiple systems.
For Kyler, one of the most valuable features is direct access to AT&T practices. “If you have a question about the proper safety protocol, Atlas can provide an answer or direct you to the full resource,” he says.
The result is a smoother experience for everyone involved. “It makes the process of installing or repairing fiber so much easier for both me and the customer,” Kyler says.
Continuing to evolve
As network demands grow and new capabilities become available, Atlas will continue to evolve. Technicians are building and maintaining the connectivity customers depend on, and tools like Atlas help them do that work quickly, safely and to a high standard.
“Perhaps the project’s biggest accomplishment is bringing thousands of technicians across multiple organizations onto a common platform while continuing to evolve with their needs,” Mansi says. “Atlas is more than a technology solution. It is a partnership among technicians, operations teams, product managers, researchers, designers and engineers working toward the same goal.”
