Innovation thrives on growth — learning new skills, embracing fresh ideas, and pushing the boundaries to shape the future of connectivity. At AT&T, we equip our team with a wealth of resources to fuel their continuous learning journey.
See how our team is using those resources to follow their passions.
Tuition assistance
We know that the cost of earning a degree can feel overwhelming. That’s exactly why our Tuition Reimbursement Program exists — to help remove that barrier. With simple steps to follow, you could get all or part of your tuition reimbursed, making education more affordable and within reach.
At AT&T, you can pursue any eligible degree in your field from the school you choose. Plus, we offer partner programs designed to align with the work we do. These programs are built with flexibility in mind so you can balance work, life, and learning.
The employee experience
Convergence Analyst Steve Garbutt came to AT&T with a background in Computer and Information Systems. Before joining our data science team in 2021, Steve held various IT roles across banking and retail industries. He has been driving Fiber sales metrics, providing valuable insights that help shape decisions about future fiber installations.
Steve quickly advanced, earning a promotion to the Strategic Planning team, where he became the go-between for the construction teams building Fiber and the sales teams selling it. It was a big pivot from his previous roles and while he was finding great success, he knew there was still a lot to learn.
“I knew my skillset wasn’t where I wanted it to be,” Steve shared. “I decided to get a degree in data science through the tuition assistance benefit. I chose a program that seemed like a good fit and so far, everything I’ve learned has had an impact on my work.”
One of the skills he’s really honing is communication. Through a storytelling-focused class in his coursework, he learned how to manage presentation anxiety and build confidence when speaking with leaders. It’s helped him articulate his ideas more clearly and successfully implement many automations.
“There are so many opportunities to learn here that set AT&T apart. Employees are empowered to explore their passions and make meaningful contributions at the highest level.”
AT&T Personalized Learning Experience
Beyond supporting employees in pursuing higher education, AT&T offers a comprehensive suite of internal learning resources. Through our Personalized Learning Experience (PLE), employees can design their own curriculum from an extensive library of training resources. Whether it’s mastering role-specific skills, acquiring new technical skills, or enhancing soft skills, PLE ensures every employee can grow in the areas that matter most to them.
Employees don’t just create their own learning paths; they can also explore popular paths crafted by their peers. This collaborative approach is invaluable for those considering a career pivot, as Blake Anderson discovered firsthand.
Preparing for your next role
Blake Anderson began his career as a Wire Technician in 2014. It was a perfect for someone who’s always been passionate about technology. After a few years in the role, he transitioned to our Utility Operations team which was focused on the installation and maintenance of machinery. “Anything you can think of that has to do with outdoor labor, we’re the ones that do it,” he said. It was during this time that he discovered Outside Plant Engineering and felt drawn to the field.
Outside Plant Engineering is responsible for designing and planning Fiber systems. While Blake’s hands-on experience as a technician gave him a solid foundation, he knew he expanding his knowledge was essential. He began looking through PLE and came across a training path for Design Engineering created by an engineer. “I took nearly 50 courses in the span of a week after I found it,” he said. “Once I finished that, I felt like I had the knowledge to go for it.”
Blake leveraged his experience, PLE courses, and an Information Systems program — made possible through AT&T’s tuition assistance program — to prepare for a major career leap. His story reflects AT&T’s culture of continuous learning. As Blake puts it, “We are constantly learning new technologies and systems to do our jobs more efficiently. As an extension of that, the company puts resources in our hands to understand those tools.”
Steve and Blake’s experiences are not exceptions, they are the norm. Both agree that AT&T offers unparalleled support for learning and growth. With tuition assistance and Personal Learning Experience courses, these resources are just the beginning of how employees can thrive and make the most of their #LifeAtATT.
