Five minutes a day adds up.
It’s been my wellness mantra for years — and one I come back to often. On the busiest days, that short walk, quick stretch, or short ride might not seem like much… but over time, it builds resilience, strength, and balance.
My personal wellness journey began with the decision to be intentional with my actions and habits. I felt the need to support my fellow co-workers on their wellness journeys, too.
Taking these simple steps helps us stay on the path to a healthy lifestyle.
Be Intentional
Five minutes a day for yourself can have a tremendous effect on your mind and body. Balancing work, home life, and mental well-being can be a challenge. I blend physical healthy habits such as spin class, a nutrition meal, or a quick stretch, but also spiritual and mental health habits like meditation, reading a book, or prayer.
Don’t Do it Alone
After speaking to my colleagues, I realized that I am not the only one who is trying to be a great spouse, parent, leader, teammate, and friend while prioritizing my health! That’s why we started the Hissim Healthy Habits chat to actively engage, stay connected, and support each other with our wellness journeys. Our chat is uplifting and helps me keep going on days when I really don’t feel like it.
Creating your own support group can be as easy as starting a chat or group text with a few co-workers or friends. You would be surprised by how a quick chat can lift your spirits or hearing someone’s perspective can help change yours.
Find Balance
It is also important to find balance. Eat the cupcake. Drink the wine. Don’t beat yourself up when you choose a day of celebration because life is too short! Tomorrow is another day to add a healthy habit. Remember, choosing healthy habits is a lifelong goal. Small intentional steps make the longest most rewarding impacts.
Don’t Forget Your Mental Health
I have learned how to manage my mental well-being. On most days for me, that is exercise! That is my escape.
When I have a stressful day, I try to fit in 5 minutes of cycle, meditation, or some sort of exercise. It’s amazing how much my stress has been reduced and positively impacts my mental wellness.
Mental well-being is a huge factor in our overall health. We must nurture and develop our mindset to focus on a healthy way of living, both mentally and physically. Many people struggle with mental wellness, including myself. My recommendation for mental wellness is to find that activity that allows you to escape daily stress whether it’s physical activity, art, reading, or meditation – just to name a few.
Wellness isn’t a one-time decision. It’s a series of moments where we choose to show up for ourselves — sometimes for just five minutes. And that’s enough to make a difference. So, if today you couldn’t find the time for wellness, don’t give up. And if you need some support, follow our journey on social. #HissimHealthyHabits! Let’s go!
