So, you submitted the application and are excited to hear back. What should you do now?

Nailing the Interview

DO your homework

Interviewers are looking for someone prepared to handle the job at hand. Showing you have an understanding of the position and the company you are interviewing with will do just that.

Recruiter Mauricio Menendez says, “Learn about company culture, do your research and ensure you have a good understanding of what the role requires. Ask your recruiter the name of the Hiring Manager who will be interviewing you so you can address them by name.”

DON’T forget to rehearse

While you may not know exactly what your interviewer will ask, you can still have answers prepared for what you might expect. Know your resume and be ready to speak to your experiences. If you interview is virtual, have your space ready to go beforehand.

Recruiter Melvin Mason makes these recommendations: “Prep in the mirror before the interview so you can get comfortable. Keeping your webcam at eye level will help you maintain eye contact with the interviewer. Make sure the lighting is in front of you so the interviewer can clearly see your face. Finally, remove any distractions and keep the space behind you clear of paintings or messy items.”

DO ask questions

Interviewers love to see that you have really thought about the role. Having a few questions prepared will demonstrate your attention to detail as well as provide you with information you need to learn about the company. Recruiter Emily Lotti recommends these questions:

• What are the qualities of someone who succeeds in this role?
• To better understand how this role lends to the company’s overall success, can you tell me more about what the day-to-day looks like?
• In what ways can this role contribute to my future growth within the company?
• Can you tell me more about what the team culture is like?

Dressing to Impress

It’s time for the pre-interview fit check. You’ve brushed up on the company, rehearsed your discussion topics and got your questions lined up, now it’s time to get your attire in order.

DON’T be too casual

Yoga pants, ripped jeans, hoodies and hats should stay put away for the interview. You want your first impression to say you mean business. Here are some examples of what not to wear:
