For our Connectivity Experts, there is no greater joy than winning Summit – our annual celebration of top sellers across retail stores and consumer sales. To many sellers, like Client Solutions Executive Ejaz Khan, Summit is a yearly reminder of how far they’ve come and how far they still can go with their careers. “It’s a tremendous motivator,” the four-time winner told us.
“Attending Summit has encouraged me to put in more effort and strive for excellence. It’s helped me expand my professional network and develop new skills that have contributed greatly to my success.”
Getting started
A successful career in sales doesn’t happen overnight. It takes hard work, dedication, and a little help from your friends and colleagues. Ejaz first joined AT&T through a referral from a friend who encouraged him to explore opportunities here. From that moment on, connections made with leaders and mentors have made a huge impact.
His first role was as a Retail Sales Consultant. In those five years, his first mentor, Muhammad Sazzad, provided guidance that would lead to Summit glory. By keeping a close eye on performance and finding new ways to leverage his skills, Ejaz quickly earned his first win and a trip to Las Vegas.
“It was such a great experience,” he said. “AT&T really spoiled us with all sorts of gifts and great networking opportunities with senior leadership. What made it even better is that my family was able to join me on the trip.” Two more Summits followed and before long Ejaz was ready for a new challenge.
In the field

Ejaz enjoying the rewards of being a top seller
Following his retail success, Ejaz transitioned to our Consumer Sales Team. Meeting customers in their homes and providing bespoke solutions to their connectivity needs required Ejaz to further expand his skillset. “Customer service is my natural talent, and as I’ve progressed in my career, I’ve greatly sharpened that skill,” he said. “I also learned how to better support my peers and lift their skills as well as my own.”
With the help of another mentor, Micah Crain, he was able to become a top performer in Consumer Sales, too. They developed a system of best practices that could be relied upon to help customers no matter what their specific needs were. This system, along with his people skills and confidence, eventually led to a fourth Summit win and another reminder of our supportive culture.
“AT&T stands out in terms of its genuine care for employees and its commitment to their growth and well-being,” he told us. “They constantly show it in the various incentives and rewards. I’ve had fully covered trips for two, gift options, and gotten to explore new destinations.”
It goes beyond sales incentives, though, as the same care is evident in the company’s culture itself. Ejaz spoke of the supportive work environment and resources that empower team members to control their own development, like the Management Development Program he is a graduate of.
Embracing new challenges
Today, Ejaz is continuing his career journey as a part of our Business Sales Mobility Mid-Markets team. Again, Ejaz has embraced the teachings of his new manager, Steven Seagroves, to take his sales skills to the next level and make a big impact in his new role.
“Business sales is different from consumer or retail sales in that you have to make your own business,” Ejaz explained. “There’s no steady flow of customers through the door or a list of appointments handed to you – you have to go out and make it happen.”
With the help of Steven, Ejaz is sharpening his skills with a new goal in mind: reaching Diamond Club – the Business Sales equivalent of Summit. Along with bigger commissions, Ejaz is enjoying his latest role, but the journey continues – to the Diamond Club and beyond. He’s also inspiring the next generation and is proud to share #LifeAtATT with his son, who followed in his footsteps and is also part of our Business Sales team.
To others looking to blaze their own trail in sales, the 11-time North Texas STAR Award winner offered this advice: “Be willing to help your peers and lead by example. Maintaining a positive mindset and being open to growth opportunities can also make a significant difference.”
