How many other companies give you the chance to make over $200,000 in commission your first year?
Got your attention? Good. We know when it comes to Business Sales one of the most important factors in a job hunt is your earnings potential. That’s why we’ve revamped our compensation structure in Mid-Markets Business Sales to put the focus on rewarding our sellers, empowering them to make more than ever.
We wanted an insider perspective, so we sat down with Amy Smith, AVP of our Mid-Markets Platinum Sales team to hear more about our unmatched pay, benefits, and rewards for our sellers.
The baseline
Money aside (which is important), let’s start with what you get the moment you join our team. Along with a comprehensive package of benefits and a competitive salary, every one of our sellers starts their first day with the backing of a historic brand that not every company can match.
When we asked Amy where to start, she was quick to highlight benefits like tuition reimbursement, 401(k) plans, and a 50% discount on eligible service plans as three benefits that can make a meaningful impact on your personal bottom line. You’ll also get 23 paid vacation days a year, medical coverage, and access to resources that range from pet insurance to parental leave.
Now, your chance to really earn…
Commission
“The first thing I tell my new hires is this: you have the opportunity to make $200,000 in commission alone. That’s not even adding your salary and incentives. Just $200,000 on sales alone.”
How does it work?
Sellers have a minimum sales goal, or target incentive, and they can earn up to 500% commission by meeting and exceeding those sales goals. For example, a new salesperson with a target incentive of $40,000 can grow their commission up to $200,000 on top of base salary when maxing out sales goals.
Want to make even more?
By consistently smashing your quotas, you get the opportunity to progress to the next level of sales. Each time you get progressed in your role, your at-risk and potential earnings go up. As a seller, you’re eligible to be progressed every seven months up to a total of five times in your career. A seller at the top progression has a commission cap of $365,000.
The better you are at selling, the more you earn.
We’re not done yet, though. In addition to your 500% capped commission, you also earn special incentive bonuses for every deal closed.
Adding to the total
Incentives at AT&T are set based on current business needs and give sellers an opportunity to earn even more for their sales. Amy explained, “AT&T pays per widget at the seller level. Our voice widgets, data widgets, and internet widgets all have their own values set each trimester.”
In case you’re wondering, a widget can be anything, like a whole new install or adding a new line to an existing account. When we asked Amy to break it down into a dollars and cents scenario, she gave us an example. “Say the current voice line incentive bonus is $100. If you sell a customer 20 voice lines, that’s $2,000 on top of commission, salary, and any other incentives for other products – like Fiber ports – that may have been included in the sale.
I sit down with all my sellers and ask them how much they want to make in commission at the end of the year. We break that number down by widget, by month, and you know exactly how much you need to sell of each product. You decide how much you want to make.
Additional incentives
Besides the potential sales incentives, our top sellers can also earn prizes, from gift cards all the way up to dream vacations.
Every year, the Diamond Club offers sellers new adventures as one of the perks of being at the top of the sales field. As a multi–Diamond Club winner herself, Amy shared some of her favorite memories of private concerts and ski-trips.
“I had the chance to go deep sea fishing off the coast of California. Something I never thought I’d do. It turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience I’ll never forget,” she made sure to note.
Let’s get hunting
Between your salary, commission, and incentive payouts, this is your chance to take charge of your earnings.
As Amy likes to say, “You are the CEO of your paycheck. You can decide how much you make, and you don’t have the headaches of paying anybody else’s salary either. The company takes care of that. Let me tell you, it’s a great feeling to be like your own CEO.”
