By Tamekia Galmore, Associate Director - Sales & Loyalty
My journey to leadership started before I ever set foot in an AT&T Call Center. It was 28 years ago that an AT&T employee came to my teller window where I was working at the time. They mentioned they were hiring and that I’d be a perfect fit because of my personality.
Just like that, I started my #LifeAtATT as a Frontline Service Associate and for three years I supported our customers over the phone. During that time, I excelled in the role, earned several Summit trips as a top seller, and was eventually asked to assist with a new training class. That experience helped me realize I had more to give beyond my individual performance and sparked my passion for developing others.
I love being able to pave the way for the next generation of leaders. Seeing others achieve and exceed their goals while contributing to AT&T’s overall success is incredibly rewarding.
Soon after, I was promoted into management as a Sales Coach. It turned out to be the perfect role for me. Over the next 17 years, I had the opportunity to lead and influence hundreds of employees and teams while also balancing the important role of raising my daughters and caring for my family.
As my youngest daughter approached graduation, I began to refocus on my next career step. Around that same time, an Associate Director position opened at my former office, which was in the process of rebuilding a mega center and transforming from a service-focused environment to a sales-driven organization. With my background in both sales and service leadership, I knew it was the perfect fit.
AT&T has afforded me the ability to take care of my family and put four daughters through college. The company has also helped me invest in my own growth with continued learning benefits and opportunities to advance my career.
I applied, went through several rounds of interviews, and was selected for the role. Today, I’m proud to serve as an Associate Director, helping lead that transformation and continuing to develop the next generation of leaders.
Since taking on this role, I’ve been a part of many incredible projects. The most memorable for me was joining a team that traveled to call centers across the country. We provided coaching and held development sessions with the local leaders to help them improve their results. It’s been really meaningful to help others with their transformations.
I’ve also been trusted to help with the hiring of new talent for the last two years. We’ve held on-site job fairs and I’ve personally conducted face-to-face interviews with applicants to find the right people for the job. It’s a responsibility I do not take lightly!
A successful Call Center Representative loves engaging with customers, working within a team, and is always open to coaching. If you have those skills, you’ll earn a lot of money in sales and make a huge impact for the business.
Over the course of these 28 years, I’ve connected with incredible leaders and mentors throughout the company that have helped me grow personally and professionally. The same is possible for you.
For anyone willing to work hard and make use of the resources available, AT&T can be a place where you build not just a career, but a meaningful future for yourself, your family, and our customers.
