Our employee groups are one of the driving forces behind much of the volunteer and community work our people are known for. They also represent our workforce’s many dimensions and backgrounds – each group is open to employees who identify with their community and the allies who want to make a difference. After our merger in 2018, we’re proud to be home to over 50 employee groups, with over 147,000 active members and over 300,000 volunteer hours dedicated to the community.

With so much growth, it’s no surprise our people didn’t hold back at organizing this year’s #OurEGThing. What started as a one-off event in 2018 is now an annual tradition, just like the Employee Group Conference that it leads up to. #OurEGThing is a week-long event where hundreds of participants contributed to their local communities. Although the event was created and centered in Dallas, offices around the globe contributed to the event. The day before this week-long event, our own David Williams was already setting the stage.

Before the sun even rose in Texas on the first day, our teams were already making moves. For employee group members like Silvia, #OurEGThing was about bringing awareness and encouraging more engagement. The event helped employees in the office network and open doors to employee groups they may not have known about otherwise.

Back in Dallas, our people prepared for the PB&J challenge. In 2018, the first PB&J challenge led to over 700 sandwich donations to a local charity. This year, PB&J artists smashed through last year’s record by donating 1,000 sandwiches dedicated towards AT&T Believes.

Meanwhile, our people on the east coast had something a little different in mind. On a sunny morning in Hollywood Beach, Florida they celebrated #OurEGThing by giving back to the environment. Or rather, taking back. With trash bags in hand, they tackled the ever-present issue of pollution and littering on our shores. In their place, our people left behind some (nature friendly!) rocks that offered words of encouragement.

Around the country, employee groups put their heart into the causes they believed in. From dedicating time to thank our servicemen and women, to helping children receive necessary school supplies many of us take for granted.

With the week over, our employee groups aren’t finished making an impact. This is just a lead-up to bigger things, like this year’s Employee Group Conference that will have a dedicated day of service.
